Reading Section: Chart the Text - Hunger article
  • The teacher outlines the structure of the article.
  • Students will chart the text using this abbreviated bank of text charting verbs:
    • continue
    • introduce
    • summarize
    • offers evidence
    • makes a claim
    • addresses the bias
    • supports
    • defends
  • Practice as a group for the first two paragraphs.
  • Work in groups for the next three paragraphs.
  • Finish the rest at home.


Grammar Section: Subject Verb Object Challenge
  1. Write 5 sentences.
  2. Each sentence needs to have a subject, a verb, and an object.
  3. Mr. Devine will form groups of 3 to 4 (listen for your number).
  4. In your group, ask a question then read your sentence. For example: "What is the verb in this sentence?"
  5. Challenge someone in the group to answer your question correctly.

  • Continue reading.
  • Students keep summary sentences as we read.
